GRAND ISLAND — Emergency Medicine physician Anthony Cook, MD was named the CHI Health St. Francis 2024 Physician Excellence Award winner on Friday, March 29 — a day before National Doctors’ Day.
In its 17th year, the awards recognize some of St. Francis’ most talented doctors for their excellence of care, dedication to patients and staff, and always going “above and beyond.”
Appreciation for Dr. Cook was reflected in several nominations submitted by patients, their families and staff:
- Dr. Cook is an invaluable asset to our team here at St Francis. He consistently displays exceptional skills, outstanding leadership and dedication to not only the patients and families he interacts with, but also the staff he works with.
- Dr. Cook’s actions and behaviors are the epitome of the ED’s vision and mission which is “always putting the patient first.”
- Dr Cook has not only earned my nomination for the Physician of the Year Award, but he has also earned the respect and gratitude of the patients, families and staff that work with him. He guides his medical care as if all of his patients were his own family members.
- Dr. Cook’s patient-centric approach to process improvement has not only improved the quality of care for our patients; it has also set the standard for our teams and how we deliver that care.
- We are very fortunate to have Dr. Cook leading the provider group in our ED. He is committed to evidence-based practice, effective multidisciplinary collaboration, and patient outcome improvement.

March 30, 1933, was the first observance of Doctors’ Day in Winder, Georgia. In 1991, National Doctors’ Day was proclaimed by President George Bush.
