STORM CONTINUE POSTSEASON RUN; CLOSE OUT STAMPEDE AT HOME:

The Tri-City Storm won its opening round series over the Sioux Falls Stampede Wednesday night at the Viaero Center with an 8-3 victory. 

The Storm won the final two games of the Best-Of-Three series after dropping the opening game of the series in overtime on Monday night. 

Artemi Nizameyev recorded the fourth postseason hat trick in franchise history on Wednesday night after teammate Jake Rozzi scored three goals in Monday’s opening game of the playoffs. Nolan Roed (2), Owen Beckner (2), and Nick Roukounakis also scored for Tri-City in Wednesday’s victory.

The Storm will now advance to play the Anderson Cup Champion Fargo Force in a Best-Of-Five Series in the Western Conference Semifinal Round of the 2024 Clark Cup Playoffs. The series will begin Saturday night at 6:05pm CT at Scheels Arena. 

The second game of the series will also be played on the Force’s home ice at 7:05pm CT on Monday night. The series will move to the Viaero Center for Game #3 on Wednesday, April 24th. Game #4 (If Necessary) will be played on Thursday, April 25th at 7:05pm CT. The final game in the series (If Necessary) will be played at Scheels Arena on Saturday, April 20th at 7:05pm CT. 

 

BRONCOS SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH FLAMES:

The Hastings College softball team picked up a walk-off win over College of Saint Mary 9-8 in game two after dropping game one 4-1 on a beautiful Wednesday evening out at the Smith Softball Complex.

Hastings is now 15-21 (3-11) on the year and will be back in action Friday Apr. 19 hitting the road to take on Dakota Wesleyan in a doubleheader set to begin at 3:00 pm up in Mitchell, SD.

 

SIX HUSKERS TO COMPETE AT US OLYMPIC TRIALS:

Six Nebraska wrestlers will compete in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials this weekend at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park, Pa. The two-day event on Friday, April 19 and Saturday April 20, will determine the United States’ representatives at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

Six former Huskers have qualified for the event, as Liam Cronin (57 kg), James Green (65 kg), Jordan Burroughs (74 kg), Tyler Berger (74 kg), Eric Schultz (97) and Christian Lance (125 kg) will all compete. 

The event begins on Friday with sessions at 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. (CT)

The Huskers had the worst turnover margin in the Big Ten last season, and the Big Red’s quarterbacks combined for the most turnovers in the country.

The Huskers will hold another scrimmage on Saturday, a week prior to the Red-White Spring game set for April 27.

Rhule added he does not expect more players to leave the program until after the Red-White spring game.

 

76ers ADVANCE TO POSTSEASON IN PLAY-IN TOURNEY WIN:

Joel Embiid showed why Philadelphia always has a shot at a long postseason run as long as he’s in the lineup.

Embiid had 23 points, 15 rebounds and one huge assist to Kelly Oubre Jr. on a go-ahead three-point play that led the 76ers to a 105-104 win over the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament on Wednesday night.

The 76ers earned the No. 7 seed and advanced to play the second-seeded New York Knicks in the opening round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Game 1 is Saturday at Madison Square Garden.

The Heat — who went from the play-in tourney to the NBA Finals a year ago — play the winner of the night’s late play-in game between Chicago and Atlanta on Friday night, with the winner getting the No. 8 seed.
