HASTINGS — As the early giving period for Give Hastings Day is now open, Hastings Fire & Rescue encourages public support for the purchase of three essential thermal imaging cameras (TICs) for the front-line apparatus.

Hastings Fire & Rescue has a goal to raise $10,000 during Give Hastings Day on May 2, following the early giving period.

The department’s current thermal imaging cameras need replacing due to years’ worth of heavy wear and tear in harsh environments. The current cameras are seeing increased maintenance issues and equipment failures deeming them unreliable for emergencies.

Thermal imaging cameras are vital tools that help firefighters in detecting hotspots, locating victims, and navigating through smoke-filled environments with precision and speed, significantly enhancing their effectiveness in emergency situations.

TICs are used at every fire scene, on hazmat incidents, at vehicle accidents and for maintaining situational awareness. Extensive research has shown the deployment of TICs is a lifesaving tactic.

As this equipment greatly enhances the occupational health and safety of responders, HFR regards its provision as a top priority. This technology will unquestionably protect the most valuable asset we have, our firefighters.

Your generosity on Give Hastings Day will make a tangible difference in our ability to safeguard our community in times of crisis. Join us in this crucial mission by donating today. Every contribution brings us one step closer to reaching our goal and ensuring the safety of our firefighters and residents alike.
