BEARCAT BASEBALL ESCAPES FREMONT WITH WIN; HEADS TO BELLEVUE:

Down 5-2 entering the bottom of the seventh, Fremont plated two runs and had the tying run in scoring position prior to Kegan Brand’s save completing the frantic win for the Bearcat baseball team on Monday night at Schilke Fields.

Kearney (13-10) won, scoring five runs on eight hits with two errors while Fremont (8-6) dropped scoring four runs on seven hits.

Derrick Nonhof earned the win working 4 innings, while Brand was credited with the save striking out five. Brand also gave Kearney the lead in the bottom of the fifth, blasting a three RBI double into right center field with bases loaded.

The Bearcats remained on the eastern edge of the state overnight, heading to Bellevue East this afternoon for another varsity tilt. First pitch is set for 3 PM and KGFW’s pregame coverage begins at 2:45 PM with Alex Hammeke on the call.

Tune in to Bearcat Baseball on 1340 KGFW, 96.1 FM, on the free KGFW mobile app, and online at KGFW.com.

STORM FALL IN GAME TWO OF WESTERN CONFERENCE SEMIS:

The Tri-City Storm dropped the second game of the team’s Western Conference Semifinal series against the Fargo Force Monday night at Scheels Arena by a final score of 3-1.

The Storm have now dropped each of the first two games in the Best-Of-Five series.

Nick Roukounakis scored Tri-City’s only goal of the contest in the opening minute of the 1st period.

The Storm now returns home for Game #3 of the series at the Viaero Center on Wednesday night. Puck drop for the playoff matchup between the Storm and the Force is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.

EX-HUSKER COACH DENIES SEXUAL INVOLVEMENT WITH FORMER PLAYER:

Former Nebraska women’s basketball assistant coach Chuck Love denied ever having a sexual relationship with former Cornhuskers player Ashley Scoggin but acknowledged in a court document that he did meet with her late at night in a Lincoln parking lot.

Scoggin in February filed a civil lawsuit in U.S. District Court described how Love allegedly took a special interest in her and said the relationship turned sexual and caused Scoggin to fear retaliation if she refused to engage in it.

The lawsuit named Love, the university’s Board of Regents, women’s head basketball coach Amy Williams and former athletic director Trev Alberts as defendants. Scoggin seeks a jury trial in Lincoln and unspecified damages for the alleged violation of her civil rights.

HUSKER BASEBALL WELCOMES KANSAS:

Nebraska Baseball looks to continue to defend their home diamond, welcoming Kansas to Hawks Field tonight.

Drew Christo will have the start for the Big Red, sporting a 1-2 record with a 4.82 ERA. He will face southpaw Evan Shaw of the Jayhawks.

Nebraska and Kansas meet for the second time this season after the Jayhawks came away with a 13-11 win in a high-scoring midweek matchup earlier this month in Lawrence.

Tuesday’s tilt is the first trip to Lincoln for the Jayhawks since 2010, where KU took two of three games from the Big Red in a weekend series.

KGFW’s pregame is set for 5:30 PM with first pitch scheduled just after 6 PM.

NEBRASKA SOFTBALL HOSTS HAWKEYE DOUBLEHEADER:

The Nebraska softball team will play at home for the first time in more than two weeks Tuesday when the Huskers host the Iowa Hawkeyes for a doubleheader at Bowlin Stadium.

First pitch for game one is at 4 p.m. with game two set to start 30 minutes following game one. Fans can also watch both games of the doubleheader live on the Big Ten Network or the Fox Sports app.

The Huskers are coming off a 2-4 road trip that included a series win at Rutgers and a winless series at Michigan last weekend. NU has lost three straight games, just the second time this season Nebraska has lost more than two games in a row.

UNK’S BOTERO MOLINA NAMED ALL-MIAA FOR THIRD TIME:

Junior Juliana Botero Molina represents Nebraska-Kearney on the 2024 All-MIAA women’s golf team.

The team, composed of 18 players, was chosen by the league’s 11 head coaches.

Botero Molina (Colombia) earns second-team accolades, and this is her third straight All-MIAA honor. Previously, she was an honorable mention choice in both 2022 and 2023.

Heading into this week’s MIAA Championships, Botero Molina leads the team with a 76.50 stroke average.
