GRAND ISLAND — The Running of the Wieners is back.

After not occurring for several years, Stuhr Museum stepped up to host the races for dachshunds on Saturday, April 27.

Kylie Luth, assistant curator at Stuhr Museum, said, “I remember this being at the Platt Deutsche when I was a little kid. I just really missed this event. I wanted to bring it back to the community.”

She said 36 dachshunds were entered in the races, which occurred on the lawn in railroad town near the bandstand.

The race winners, dog’s name, and dog owners were:
*Special Olympics: Poi Poi, Douglas Brown.
*Feisty Frank: Ellie, Diana Boutwell.
*Senior Sausage: Daisie, Sydney Olson.
*Little Smokies: Rocco, Lisa Tschauner.

After being held at the Platt-Duetsche starting about 25 years ago, the races were not held for a few years, then were scheduled in Chapman. From Chapman, the races for the dachshunds have moved to the Stuhr Museum.
