Former Loper Coach to Lead South Dakota

VERMILLION, SD –Former UNK women’s basketball coach Carrie Eighmey has reportedly accepted the head coaching position at the University of South Dakota, as reported by multiple outlets.

She was a finalist for this position when it opened just two years ago.

Eighmey spent this past season as the head coach at Idaho after a long successful run as the head coach at Nebraska-Kearney. Eighmey was also well-known for local talents at the prep level in Nebraska, having won four state titles as a player at Sandy Creek High School.

After a long stint as an assistant coach at Fort Hays State beginning her career, Eighmey continued onto her alma mater to lead Hastings College in the NAIA. As player with the Broncos she helped lead them to national titles in 2002 and 2003.

Following her Bronco tenure, ending 68-31 while with in Hastings, she began an eight-year stint at UNK with her husband Devin as an assistant.

Eighmey won 165 games with UNK and led the Lopers to the NCAA Division II tournament three times. After departing UNK for Idaho in 2023, the Vandals went 15-16 this past year.
