KEARNEY – The Tri-City Storm is set to host the Sioux Falls Stampede tonight at the Viaero Center in the final game of the team’s opening round series in the Clark Cup Playoffs. Each of the previous two games in the Best-Of-Three series have gone to overtime, including last night’s thrilling battle. Tri-City avoided elimination and extended the series with a game-winning goal on the powerplay in overtime by Owen Beckner. Puck drop for tonight’s final game of the opening round series between the Storm and the Stampede at the Viaero Center is scheduled for 7:05pm CT.

The winner of tonight’s game at the Viaero Center between the Stampede and the Storm will advance to play the Anderson Cup Champion Fargo Force in a Best-Of-Five series in the Conference Semifinal Round of the postseason. Game #1 of the Western Conference Semifinals will be played at 6:05pm CT on Saturday at Scheels Arena. Game #2 is scheduled for Monday at 7:05pm CT.

Tri-City (1-1, 4th Seed) fought off elimination for the first time this postseason in last night’s 3-2 overtime victory at the Viaero Center. Owen Beckner’s game-winning goal in overtime was the first overtime goal in the Clark Cup Playoffs scored by a Storm player in nearly twenty years. Beckner’s scoring play was the first postseason overtime goal recorded by a Tri-City player since J.P. Platisha scored an overtime goal to give the Storm a 4-3 overtime road win over the Sioux City Musketeers on April 22nd, 2005. It was the first overtime goal scored in the playoffs by a Storm player at the Viaero Center since Ryan Dingle’s overtime winner on April 15th, 2004, in Tri-City’s 3-2 win over the Sioux City Musketeers. All three of the Storm’s goals in last night’s win were netted on the powerplay, including Owen Beckner’s game-winning goal in overtime. Cam Briere scored his first goal of the postseason on the powerplay during the 2nd period, and August Falloon netted his second goal of the playoffs during the 3rd period to tie the game.

Sioux Falls (1-1, 5th Seed) had opportunities to end the series during overtime last night at the Viaero Center, but ultimately surrendered the game-winning goal on the penalty kill with under nine minutes to play in the period. The Stampede led after the 1st and 2nd periods for the second consecutive game, but were unable to close out the Storm for the series victory. Sioux Falls opened the postseason with a 6-5 overtime win over Tri-City Monday at the Viaero Center to take a one-game lead in the Best-Of-Three series. Noah Eyre and Jaksen Panzer each netted a goal for the Stampede in last night’s road loss to the Storm at the Viaero Center. Sioux Falls will now face elimination for the first time in the playoffs in tonight’s winner-take-all game. The Stampede have won twelve of their last fourteen postseason games played dating back to the team’s title run in the 2019 Clark Cup Playoffs.
